About the Artist
Ciao! My name is Claudia Cifolelli and I have been painting for almost 10 years. I started out in watercolor and have slowly transitioned to oil pastel.
The images I paint are my celebration of food as a love language and the power it can have to evoke nostalgia within us. My mother has always been a great cook, and I have many happy memories attached to the kitchen. Painting food as a theme is my way of honoring who I am and where I come from.
I choose quiet compositions and subject matters that give room to highlight the beauty in slowness and simplicity. Cooking is also like a form of meditation to me so it is important for me to showcase that feeling of peace in my artwork. My paintings mainly consist of oil pastel and colored pencils as my medium. I love the playfulness of oil pastels as I tend to liken it to a “grown-up” crayon.
Food is a necessity. But, it can also carry much more meaning in our lives than that. It is what brings communities together. It is what fuels our creativity. It is what connects us to our ancestors and family traditions. It is what brings us comfort when we are feeling down.
I hope my audience views my work feeling happy, hungry and inspired to make something new.
